Owning a home studio as an upcoming musician is a good initiative. It helps to speed up your music career as you won't be depending on booking for studios which does not give you the convenience you need to record your music.
Take it slow if money is your challenge then plan to make it happen in three years.
But if money is not your challenge then you can make it happen within a month
.
There are only 3 most basic and important equipment you will need. (These are computer, professional studio recording mic, soundcard also known as audio interface)
Now the break down.
.
1. Desktop Computer or Laptop
(if you can’t afford a brand new one buy a home used. If you can afford a smartphone then you can afford a home used computer, (you have used more than one smartphone since you started using phones.
Just compare the prices of all the smartphones put together that you have used and question yourself if you have doubts of not being able to afford a home used computer to start a home studio for your music hustle and dream.
Don’t make the excuse that you can’t afford it.
2. Professional Recording Mic
I recommend m-audio condenser microphones - I recommend you buy it/order it yourself from abroad, online. it’s cheaper if you order it yourself but you’ll need a credit card, walk into any bank and tell them you need a card that you can use to buy things online, you can get it instantly or it can take a few working days. If you cant afford the money to put on the card, plan towards it,(3 year’s hustle plan can get you a home studio)
First year you hustle and save money and buy the computer - make a commitment - stop buying internet for facebooking and social media for one year and safe that money towards your music ambition.
Second year you hustle save money for the microphone - you get a credit card from a bank and order it online.
3. Audio Interface
The third most important basic equipment you’ll need is an audio interface.
Make sure you buy the one with a usb connector which you can connect directly to the computer - the computer powers it, so in the case where you have a laptop you can do your recording even when there is light out because it the laptop that powers the audio interface (all you’ need is your head phone and mic)
The audio interface brand I recommend is m-audio brands. Audio interface is also known as a sound card which you will use to connect the mic and other studio recording equipments and linked them to the computer via the audio interface.
(so we are on a three years music hustle plan, so you buy the audio interface in the third year)
You’ve already acquired a credit card in year two, it’s time to top up that credit card with money and order the audio interface online.
The reason why I recommend you do this by ordering it yourself online than going to a music equipment store in your local country is that they will reap you off your money.
They will sell it to you at an exorbitant price meanwhile you’re an upcoming musician and don’t have enough money to spare and you’re just starting up.
.
So after you have acquired all the 3 basic important equipment what next>>
You’ll need a music production software. You can get a free version or trial version on the Internet to download, or get it from a friend who is into music recording or use FL Studio.
You’ll have to rely on google on how to use the music production software and master it - Remember life is a do it yourself project, you’ve come too far to leave your dreams in the hands of studio engineers and paying exhorbitant studio booking fees, it’s time you also master the art and be your own boss in music production.
.
>> Another thing you’ll need is headphone, you can get a cheap one in any store - buying a cheap headphone won’t break your pocket but if you can’t afford it use the earphone piece that comes with your smartphone.
>> You’ll need another thing that is speakers, called monitors, forget professional monitors, just use the subwoofer speakers that you have or get some good computer speakers with good sound.
There are two last things you’ll need ( a mic stand and XLR cable/cord to connect your mic to the audio interface/soundcard - as for these two last things you can get them from a local music equipment store in your country.
You’ll need a table or desk to put your equipment on.(computer, audio interface, speakers/monitors.) But don’t tell me you don’t have a table or lap top desk at home. If your table or desk is very small place the speakers/monitors on the floor - it’s a hustle music thing.
With these stuffs you’re good to go with a home recording studio, when you get enough money later, you can start buying some other professional studio equipment.
So there you have it the three years hustle music plan to owning a home studio - If after three years you still don’t have a home studio blame yourself and it means you’re not serious about your music career and ambitions.
BUDGET: (300-500 dollars Depending on the quality/price of equipment) - Low/Medium Budget Professional Recording Equipments.
Don’t be scared about the budget (start saving 10 dollars a month for 36 months is 360 dollars and that falls within the budget, you can make it)
This hustle plan is for serious minded upcoming musicians only not for fairly serious hobby type of musicians.
Jobs I suggest you can do to raise this money>>
- Blogging
- Digital/Social Media Marketing
- Affiliate Marketing
- Buying and Selling Phone Accessories (cheap ones) or small handheld Bluetooth speakers-buy one sell it, next time buy two sell it etc
- Cheap Website Design for small businesses and individuals
- Tutoring School kids
- or sell your iPhone/your expensive phone or a personal belonging that you owned but it’s not generating any income or has no value to you.
Is either you hustle hard to make it or watch the game break you by doing nothing about it.
I want you to make it, so try and give any of these jobs a try or combine all if you can, 3 years is long enough to meet the target for the budget. You can even make it in a shorter time.
I pray you make it to the top of your music career and music business.
