FC Barcelona are reportedly considering Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey as a key target for the upcoming summer transfer window, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The Catalan giants have long admired the Ghana international, dating back to his time at Atletico Madrid. Despite their interest, Barcelona missed out on signing him four years ago when he moved to Arsenal in the Premier League.
However, Partey remains on Barcelona’s radar, with his current Arsenal contract set to expire in the summer of 2025. The Blaugrana see the 31-year-old as an ideal replacement for Frenkie de Jong, whose future at the club looks increasingly uncertain.
De Jong's situation at Barcelona has been complicated by financial constraints, inconsistent performances, and injuries. The club’s ongoing financial struggles have heightened the need to reduce their wage bill, with de Jong emerging as a potential departure to free up funds.
In line with recent trends, Barcelona may focus on economical transfers, including free agents, due to their limited budget. This strategy could see them revive their interest in Partey, who has proven his value this season.
Partey has overcome previous injury setbacks and made 17 league appearances for Arsenal this season, contributing two goals and two assists.
He has also been pivotal in the Champions League, featuring in all six group-stage matches, showcasing his importance under manager Mikel Arteta.
A move for Partey could signal Barcelona’s intent to strengthen their midfield while navigating their financial challenges, as they look to rebuild for future success.
