Election 2024: My govt will make smart phones affordable, accessible to everybody – Bawumia

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has pledged to enhance smartphone accessibility for Ghanaians if he becomes president.

Addressing supporters at a campaign event in the Northern region, Dr. Bawumia unveiled a plan to partner with mobile phone manufacturers to offer smartphones on a credit basis.

Under this proposal, citizens would be able to acquire phones and pay for them in instalments as low as GHC1 or GHC2 per month.

Dr. Bawumia noted that this initiative aims to bridge the digital divide and improve connectivity across the country by making smartphones more accessible to the average Ghanaian.

“We will make access to mobile phones affordable,” Dr. Bawumia announced. “We plan to collaborate with phone manufacturers to set up a system where citizens can purchase smartphones on a credit plan.

“This means buyers would pay in small, manageable amounts—just GH¢1 or GH¢2—until the full cost is covered. Our goal is to ensure that everyone has access to a smart device.”
