Organized labour and government on Tuesday 14th November 2023 agreed on a 23% base pay increment from January 2024 to June 2024 and another +2% making a total of 25% from July 2024 to December 2024.
Organised labour and government representatives previously met on Monday 13th November 2023 to negotiate the base pay for the year 2024.
Organised labour made a proposal of 75.1 percent to government taken into consideration the current economic situation.
Government team later moved to 12 percent. Labour also moved from 75.1 to 73 percent.
By way of showing good faith , Organised labour moved from 73 to 60 percent .
Government team also moved from 12 to 15 percent which was totally rejected by Organised Labour. The parties met again on Tuesday 14th 2023 for further engagement which resulted in an agreement to a 23% base pay increment and further addition of 2% to 23% from July 2024.
Looking at the current economic downturn and rising inflation, 23% increment is a lower increment compared to 30% increment in 2023. Reactions from government employees is going to be negative since this increment is adrop from the previously negotiated increment(30%) for 2023..
