Benzema,De Bruyne and Thibaut Courtois nominated for the 21/22 UEFA player of the year.

 

The 2021/2022 UEFA player of the year nominees has been announced, Kelvin De Bruyne, Karim Benzema and Thibaut Courtois are the top nominees this year.

The winner will be named along with UEFA Men's Coach of the year and women's Player and Coach of the year during the Champions League draw ceremony in Istanbul on Thursday 25 August.

Meaning of UEFA Men's Player of the year award? It is an UEFA award that football players in Europe, irrespective of the nationality, have been judged in regard to their performances over the whole season in all competitions both domestically at either club or national team level.

How players get shortlisted for the UEFA award? An initial shortlist of 15 players will be selected by UEFA's technical study group. The top three nominees were voted by a jury comprising the following:

1. The clubs that participated in the group stages of the 2021/2022 UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League.

2. A group of journalist selected by the European Sports Media (ESM)

Jury members chose their top three players, with the first receiving five points, the second three and the third one. Coaches were not allowed to vote for players from their own team.

Last season UEFA Men's Player of the year award was won by Chelsea's Jorginho.

Carlo Ancelotti, Josep Guardiola and Jürgen Klopp were also nominated for the UEFA Men's Coach of the year.
